It's always on and broadcasting what you say to others in multiplayer games.

Hooking up a camera to your PS4 is necessary for PlayStation VR. It really is a great device that understands a bunch of commands, but it works a little too well. When you leave PSVR — if you can ever bring yourself to play regular games again — the microphone on the camera stays on.

Say you jump into a game of Battlefield 1 right after enjoying PSVR — your squadmates don't need to hear you talking to your significant other or children, and they especially don't want to hear your cursing after every time you're killed. Here's how to turn off the microphone on the PlayStation camera.

How to disable the PlayStation camera's microphone

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Click Devices. You might have to scroll down a bit to find it.

    Click Settings. Click Devices.

  3. Click PlayStation Camera.
  4. Click Mute Microphone so that a checkmark appears in the checkbox.

Click PlayStation Camera. Click Mute Microphone.

The microphone is now muted. If you'd like to use voice commands with the PS camera, you'll have to un-mute the mic.
